Workshop Cnr Nanotec@Roma
1 december 2025 - Sapienza University of Rome

The workshop of the CNR-Nanotec Rome unit, held on 1 December at the Department of Physics of Sapienza University of Rome, highlighted the scientific expertise active in the fields of condensed matter physics, photonics, biology, biomedical sciences, and nanotechnologies. Through short but high-level scientific presentations, the event provided an updated overview of the interdisciplinary research that defines Nanotec’s identity.

The opening session by Professors Fabrizio Illuminati and Daniele del Re emphasized the importance of fostering exchange among researchers and promoting collaborative projects across physics, life sciences, and nanotechnology.

The scientific program was organized around three main themes:

  • Statistical physics, complex systems, and photonics: presentations by Enzo Marinari, Luca Leuzzi, Michele Ortolani, and Daniele Ancora on applications of disordered systems, photonics, and new microfabrication infrastructures.
  • Cellular microenvironment, imaging, and biophysics: contributions by Barbara Cortese, Ilenia Viola, Silvia Capuani, Michela Fratini, Fabrizio Bardelli, and Viviana Moresi on multimodal diagnostics, imaging, and the study of complex diseases, as well as Giuseppe Gigli on precision medicine at Tecnomed Puglia.
  • Soft matter, living systems, and microscopy technologies: interventions by Giancarlo Ruocco, Claudio Maggi, Silvio Bianchi, and Marco Leonetti on collective dynamics, advanced microscopy, and light-based computing.

The workshop confirmed the role of the CNR-Nanotec Rome unit as a hub for interdisciplinary research, capable of combining fundamental studies with innovative applications in diagnostics, materials, and biomedicine, while fostering dialogue and new collaborations.
